The Next Generation Leahy in Concert
by Judi “Scoop“ and Gary McWilliams (aka Festival Nomad)
The Westben Arts Festival Theatre, located in Campbellford, offers music “lovers” a wide variety of genres.
We had been invited by Donna Bennett, co-founder of the theatre, to a concert featuring the Doug Leahy Family.
Doug Leahy is part of the famous Canadian musical group, The Leahy Family.
Doug Leahy and his family are now performing as The Next Generation Leahy.
Doug and his wife, Jennifer, and their 6 “very talented” children are “The Next Generation Leahy“!
To say that they are fun to watch and listen to would be an “understatement“!
The “eldest” Leahy musician, other than Mom or Dad, is Adele.
Adele, so far, plays the fiddle, piano, cello and ukulele. She also sings and step dances!
Next in line is Gregory. Like Adele, Gregory plays several instruments, fiddle, piano, drums and accordion. Step dancing and singing is also part of his talents.
Angus is the “third” of the Next Generation. His talents match his two older siblings! His “things” are the fiddle, piano, guitar and ukulele, and , of course, he sings and step dancers!
Cecilia is the “forth” Next Generation of this multi talented family. Cecilia plays the fiddle, piano, bass and mandolin! “WOW“!
Going down the line of “talent” is Joseph. Joseph has mastered the fiddle, piano and the accordion!
Last, but not least, is Evelyn! Evelyn is the youngest and is the “cutest” (our opinion). Like the other kids Evelyn loves to sing, step dance and play her fiddle!
After the concert at Westben, we made arrangements to meet with Doug and Jennifer to visit them at their farm in Lakefield.
Not only are Doug and his family exceptionally talented, they are gracious hosts.
When we arrived, we were greeting by everyone. We knew that the kids had been told we were coming and that they should be on their best behavior, but we had the feeling that they would have been anyway!
We believe that this is an ordinary family with extraordinary talent. The talent is combined with a lot of hard work!
The whole family was very patient as we asked our question about them and their music.
After the interview was over, we all went outside. two of the boys showed their golf swings! Perhaps another profession might be calling?
We said our “goodbye’s” and drove off from the farm, realizing how fortunate we were to have met such a great family.
We had a great time listing to and talking with the Leahy family. you should make it a point to visit one (or more) of their concerts. You can find our more about the family and when and where their concerts are taking place by visiting their website at http://www.thenextgenerationleahy.com/
